Dear Lara
Dear Lara is a deeply personal documentary exposing decades of sexual abuse and institutional complicity in the world of classical music.
The story begins in 2019, when renowned violinist Lara St. John publicly reveals the sexual assault she endured as a 14-year-old student at the prestigious Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. After her story is published in The Philadelphia Inquirer, survivors from around the world come forward with strikingly similar experiences. Determined to ensure their voices are heard, Lara travels across North America and Europe to meet fellow musicians failed by the institutions meant to protect them. As their stories accumulate, a disturbing pattern emerges of organizations shielding predators at the expense of the vulnerable. Blending intimate testimony, investigative rigor, and a haunting original score composed by Lara herself, Dear Lara becomes both a reckoning from within the classical music world and a powerful call for accountability, justice, and lasting change.
